Superusers

What Is a Superuser in TrackTik and How Does It Work?

In TrackTik, a Superuser is the highest-level permission that can be assigned to a user. This role grants broad administrative control across the entire platform, far beyond what standard roles like Admin, Supervisor, or Staff can access.

A Superuser has elevated capabilities that allow them to manage the system at a global level. This includes:

  • Full visibility across all sites, regions, and modules
  • The ability to modify system‑wide settings
  • Access to advanced configuration areas not available to standard roles
  • Override powers that bypass typical role‑based restrictions
  • Access to features that are not governed by the standard permission checkbox system

Because of the extensive control Superusers have, this access is usually restricted to a small number of trusted individuals within an organization.

How Superuser Access Is Granted

When the portal is created, a Superuser is assigned as a primary administrator for the organisation. Only an existing Superuser can assign this level of access to another user. If you need Superuser rights, you must request that a current Superuser enables the Superuser checkbox on your account.

If you do not see the Superuser option when editing another user’s profile, it means your own account does not currently have Superuser privileges. Standard Admin or Guard permissions are not enough to grant this level of access.

Managing Dashboard and Data Lab Visibility

Organizations often want only Superusers to see sensitive features like live dashboards or the Data Lab. To ensure this:

  1. Remove dashboard and Data Lab visibility from non‑Superuser roles
    • Go to Settings → Roles/Permissions → Admin Portal Roles
    • Uncheck View the dashboard and View data lab for the roles that should not access them
  2. Confirm the user is not tagged as a Superuser
    • The Superuser flag overrides many visibility restrictions
    • If the user is marked as a Superuser, they will still see these modules even if the permissions are removed from their role

Best Practice regarding Roles & Permissions

To ensure everything is working smoothly, once a person is granted Superuser access, you should also give them the Administrator role in the system, by going into their Employee tab and assigning them the highest role in your Portal, on top of the Superuser checkbox.
