Bring Your Own Device

The BYOD option allows security guards to use TrackTik on their personal devices by providing a dynamic license. Rather than assigning the security guard's device to a site or zone, this option automatically places the device at the site or zone based on the assigned shift. Since it depends on having a shift, it is only available with our Scheduling module.

BYOD Concept

The BYOD option uses the employee's shift to assign the device to the appropriate zone or site. The mechanism for doing this follows the logic below.
  1. The user enters their username.
  2. The mobile application pings the server and searches for shifts assigned to the user.
  3. Once the system finds the shift, the server returns the information from the shift (Start/End time and Site/Zone)
  4. The mobile application updates the dynamic license and assigns the device to the site or zone where the shift exists.

How to install a BYOD license

You create a BYOD license within a Department rather than a site or zone. The license and device will work at any site or zone where the user's shift exists. To install a BYOD license, follow the steps below.

  1. Hover over the "Employees" tile on the left-hand side menu. Select the "Departments" option from the pop-out menu.
  2. If no Departments appear, continue to the next step. If the desired department is present, locate the BYOD license installation code in the green box above.

Create a Department (if applicable)

The BYOD license will require a Department. Before you install a BYOD license, you can find the department you'd like or follow the steps below to create one.

  1. Hover over the Employees tile from the left-hand side menu. From the pop-out menu, select Department.
  2. To create a new department, click on the Create Department button.
  3. Complete the information in the form.
  4. Click on the Create button to create the department.

Install a BYOD License

After creating a Department, the Department will generate an installation code that security guards can use. If this code is installed on a device, that device will use a dynamic license. Complete the installation as usual. The device is ready to use once you are on the sign-in screen.
