Learn how to create and edit your Asset Types in Asset Tracking.
Overview
Asset Types make up what you want to keep track of in Asset Tracking.
You can create and edit multiple Asset Types for your tracking needs:
- Assets
- People
- Model Types
- Categories
- Manufacturers
- Suppliers
Before you start
Here are some things you must do before you start:
Creating Asset Types
Asset Types are what you want to keep track of in Asset Tracking.
Asset
An Asset is what makes up your Asset Types. Examples of Assets include vehicles, uniforms, and keys.
> You can also create Assets in a batch using a CSV file. To learn more about creating assets using batch import, check out Creating Assets with Asset Batch Import.
To create an Asset:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
- Choose Asset.
- Enter the Asset information:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.

Type
Select the type of asset you want to add from the Type drop-down menu.
> To create an Asset Model Type, select the + icon.

Name
Enter the name of the asset. -
Barcode Label
Enter a barcode label for the asset. -
Notes
Enter any notes about the asset. -
Status
From the Status drop-down menu, choose a status:
- Active
- Pending
- Inactive

Serial Number
To uniquely identify the asset, enter a serial number. -
Account Location
From the Account Location drop-down menu, select a location for the asset.
> To create an Asset Location, select the + icon.
4. Select SAVE.
You can now keep track of your assets.
People
A Person is a person who can check out Assets—for example, employees, residents, visitors, and vendors.
To create a Person:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
- Choose Person.
- Enter the Asset information:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.

Custom ID
Enter an identification number to recognize this asset numerically. -
Type
From the Type drop-down menu, select the type of Asset Person you want to add:

- Employee
- Resident
- Property Manager
- Visitor
- Contractor
- Vendor
- Guard
- Client
- Supervisor
- Officials

First Name
Enter the first name of the Person.

Last Name
Enter the last name of the Person.
-
Primary Phone
Enter the primary phone number for the Person.

Secondary Phone
Enter the secondary phone number for the Person.

Email
Enter an email address for the Person.
-
Notes
Enter any notes about the Person.

Related to
In the Related to drop-down menu, select any related People. For example, choose all employees you supervise if you're a supervisor.
> To create a Related to X, select the + icon.
4. Select SAVE.
You can now keep track of your People.
Model Type
An Asset Model Type is a group of related Assets. For example, if you have a fleet of Toyota trucks, the asset model type is 'Truck'.
To create a Model Type:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
- Choose Model Type.
- Enter the Model Type information:

Model Name
Enter a name for the Model Type. -
Custom ID / UPC
Enter a custom ID or UPC to identify the Model Type numerically. -
Category
In the Category drop-down menu, select an Asset Category where the Asset Model Type belongs.
> To create an Asset Category, select the + icon.

Manufacturer
In the Manufacturer drop-down menu, select an Asset Manufacturer.
> To create an Asset Manufacturer, select the + icon.

Contains other assets
Switch the Contains other assets toggle to green to confirm that this Model Type contains other assets to create a Bundle. -
Can be checked out
Switch the Can be checked out toggle to green to confirm that People can check out this Model Type. -
Supplier
In the Supplier drop-down menu, select an Asset Supplier.
> To create an Asset Supplier, select the + icon.
4. To customize your Asset Model Type, select Customization.

Fieldset
In the Fieldset drop-down menu, select TEXT
> To create a Fieldset, select the + icon.
Enter the name of the Fieldset and select a zone from the Zone drop-down menu. Select SAVE when you're done. -
Icon
In the Icon drop-down menu, select one of the hundreds of icons to visually identify the Asset Model Type. -
Color
Select a color for the icon's appearance in the Color drop-down menu
5. Select SAVE.

You can now keep track of your Asset Model Types.
Category
A Category is a category with Assets or Asset Types similar to a folder. For example, if you have different Assets (uniforms) for different People, uniforms could be the Asset Category.
To create an Asset Category:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
- Choose Category.
- Enter the Category information:

Name
Enter the name of the Category. -
Description
Enter a description of the Category. -
Custom ID
Enter a custom ID to identify the Category numerically. -
Parent Category
In the Parent Category drop-down menu, select a Parent Category to link your Assets to a Parent Bundle.
> To create a Parent Category, select the + icon. -
Icon
- Select one of the hundreds of icons in the Icon drop-down menu to identify the Category visually.

Color
Select a color for the icon's appearance in the Color drop-down menu.
4. Select SAVE.
You can now use your Category.
Asset Manufacturer
A Manufacturer is a manufacturer of your Assets or Asset Types. For example, a company called PlastiCorp makes key cards, an Asset you use; PlastiCorp is the Asset Manufacturer.
To create a Manufacturer:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
- Choose Manufacturer.
- Enter the Asset Manufacturer information:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.

Company Name
Enter the Company Name of the Manufacturer. -
Notes
Enter any notes about the Manufacturer. -
Website
Enter a website URL for the Manufacturer.
4. To add contact details, select Contact.
Enter the Asset Manufacturer information:

Contact Name
Enter the name of a contact at the Manufacturer. -
Email
Enter the email address of the Manufacturer. -
Phone Number
Enter the phone number of the Manufacturer. -
Fax Number
Enter the fax number of the contact at the Manufacturer.
5. To add address details, select Address.
Enter the Manufacturer address details: -
Address
Enter the first line of the address for the Manufacturer. -
Address Line 2
Enter the second line of the address for the Manufacturer. -
City
Enter the city for the Manufacturer. -
State/Province
Enter the name of the state or province for the Manufacturer. -
Zip/Postal Code
Enter the ZIP or postal code for the Manufacturer. -
Country
Enter the country where the Manufacturer is based.
6. Select SAVE.
You can now use your Manufacturer.
Supplier
A Supplier is a company that supplies Assets or Asset Types. For example, a supplier named Linens Etc. provides you with uniforms; Linens Etc. is the Asset Supplier.
To create a Supplier:

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
- Choose Supplier.

Enter the Supplier information:

Company Name
Enter the Company Name of the Asset Supplier. -
Notes
Enter any notes about the Asset Supplier.

Company Name

From the Home screen, select + CREATE.
Website
Enter a website URL for the Asset Supplier.
4. To add contact details, select Contact.
Enter the Asset Manufacturer information:

Contact Name
Enter the name of a contact at the Asset Supplier. -
Email
Enter the email address of the contact at the Asset Supplier. -
Phone Number
Enter the phone number of the contact at the Asset Supplier.
Fax Number
Enter the fax number of the contact at the Asset Supplier.
5. To add address details, select Address.
Enter the Supplier address details:

Address
Enter the first line of the address for the Supplier. -
Address Line 2
Enter the second line of the address for the Supplier. -
City
Enter the city for the Supplier. -
State/Province
Enter the name of the state or province for the Supplier. -
Zip/Postal Code
Enter the ZIP or postal code for the Supplier. -
Country
Enter the country where the Supplier is based.
6. Select SAVE.
You can now use your Supplier.
Edit Asset Types
Details about an Asset Type might change over time. You can edit the details for each Asset Type at any time.
To edit your Asset Types:

In the navigation menu, select the name of the Asset Type you want to edit.

Select the specific name of the Asset Type you want to edit from the list.
> If you can't find the specific Asset Type, enter its name in the search bar. -
In the details panel, select the Pencil icon.

Edit the details for the Asset Type.

Your changes are now saved and applied to the Asset Type.
